The East Rockingham Waste to Energy Project is a 300,000 tonne-per-annum waste to energy facility in Rockingham, south of Perth. The facility delivers a cost-effective waste treatment solution, and is a vital source of dispatchable renewable energy, whilst achieving a 96% diversion of residual waste from landfill.
Melchor Contracting were awarded two separate civil packages comprising of detailed earthworks, the construction of major concrete structures (including formwork, reinforcement, and concrete pours), as well as the installation of underground services (including process water, storm water, sewage, chemical, firefighting network, electrical and earthing).
To complete the project, Melchor Contracting poured approximately 11,500 cubic meters of concrete, including 20m high walls within the Refuse Bunker Building and installed approximately 1100 tonnes of reinforcement.
A major milestone of the project was the completion of the boiler house foundation. Melchor completed this in one continuous pour with a total of 1500m3 over a 11-hour shift.
